He made his first test debut against Sri Lanka in 1995 and ODI debut against South Africa in 1995. He lost his place in the team several times due to lack of form.
He become the test captain in 2004 and ODI captain in 2002.
He is one of the greatest batsmen of the modern times.Ponting is also Australia's leading ODI run-scorer and century maker.
